Introduction.

few words are necessary by way of introduction to a little book like this.

Only two points require explanation, viz. : the delay in printing it, and why the step was taken at all.

I. We could not at once make up our minds to put into strange hands details so sacred, and so surrounded by purely family circumstances.

II. When the sensitiveness of early grief was diminished, we at length listened to the many wishes expressed by kind relatives and friends, to possess a record of the bravely borne sufferings of one so dear to them all; and thus were persuaded to give an enduring form to our memorials. And we hope and pray that the result may be to His glory, by whose strength alone this child was enabled to bear indescribable agony with the meekest resignation, and most entire acquiescence in His holy will.
