TWENTIETH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE RECORDING SECRETARY.

To the President and Members of the Columbia Historical Society, Greeting:

The Recording Secretary submits the Twentieth Annual Report beginning January 21, 1913, and ending December 16, of the same year.

During 1913, the Society added 19 to its list of active members, lost 9 by resignation, 6 by death and has at present a membership of 222.

The Board of Managers held 7 meetings in the office of Mr. John B. Larner, Washington Loan and Trust Building, with an average attendance of 6 members. The Society held seven meetings, with an average attendance of 117 members and guests. Three of the meetings were held at the Washington Club, 1710 I street, three at The Shoreham and one, through the courtesy of Mr. Glenn Brown, Secretary of the American Institute of Architects, at the "Octagon House."

Volume 16 of The Records, containing 215 pages and 2 illustrations, was published during the year.

Books and pictures have been added to the library, room 57, Pacific Building, 622 F street, and the work of the Society has steadily gained in interest and importance.

I hand you herewith my Twentieth Annual Report as curator of the Society:

Through the generosity of several members, the Society has bought a secretary-bookcase formerly the property of Charles Vernon Gridley, U. S. N., Captain, Commodore Dewey's flagship Olympia. The bookcase during Captain Gridley's life stood in his office at Annapolis, Maryland.
