John’s, St. a small town of Canada East, on the Chambly, near the N end of L. Champlain, 23 m. se of Montreal. A railroad, 15 in. in length, connects it with La Prairie, on the St. Lawrence, whence a steam ferr keeps up the communication with Montreas, 9 m. distant. The principal commerce between New York and Montreal is carried on through this route. In the immediate

vicinity of St.John's is the tof Dorchester.
