By God's blessing, we have been enabled to accomplish the pleasant though onerous and responsible duties of another year; and again have we to thank our many friends for their ready and affectionate zeal in giving us encouragement or support. To those who have aided us in the way of literary co-operation, special and deep obligations are expressed; may we indulge the hope that similar favours will be continued? That our endeavours to render really practical assistance to Sunday-school teachers generally are still extensively appreciated, affords us sincere pleasure. This we attribute mainly to the fact that the Treasury occupies a peculiar and distinct place in the field of sabbath teaching. But, large as is our audience, we still think that only a limited number of Sunday-school teachers can be aware of the character and contents of our magazine. To make it more extensively known therefore, we once again ask the hearty cooperation of our numerous supporters. In behalf of those chiefly who need “the nurture and admonition of the Lord" is this request made. For surely if ever the times were full of sad and ominous portents—if ever there was need for proclaiming the great personal, inestimable work of the Saviour-it is now. How near may be the approach of that night when none can work, not one of us can tell; but it would appear as if the forces of evil were tumultuously flocking together, and were being marshalled for a final and mighty conflict; so much disregard of God's law, so much shedding of man's blood, so much unbelief, so much false teaching, so much of man's "many inventions" in every form and shape, do we see around us. May grace summon the united servants of the Lord to fresh achievements |
