T

Candid, Christian, Beloved Readers!
"HE whole System of Chriftian Theology confifts of,
and is divided into two parts, Theory and Praktice:

The first Part, namely, Theoreticat Tbeology, is the Science of Divine Truths. "The Second Part, Scil. Practical Theology, or Religion (as the very Terms import) confifts in the Performance of all those Duties, which are, by the Deity himself, prefcirbed to, and injoined upon us in Tbeorit Theology." Pradical Theology is also frequently, and by no means improperly, termed the Theology of the Heart; though moft commonly, as well as most modernly, it is denominated Experimental Theology. In order, therefore, to our being really religious Perfons, or complete Theologiaxs, we matt be the Subjects both of Theorical, and Pradical Divinity. That is to say, 'we muft know, and perform our wbole Duty perfily. For in the true Knowledge of God, and in the perfea' Knowledge and perteet Performance of oor' whole Daty towards God, our Neighbours and our selves, our real Happiness confifts. And certain it is, that in, internal Consciousness, and full Convi&ion of such a complete Knowledgo, and pun&qal Discharge of Duty, mut beget and produce a moft Sublime Satisfa&ion, and most home; felt Joy in the Soul. !

Now it is moft incontrovertibly evident, that Theorical Divinity, molt precede Practical Divinity. Indeed Theory matt in general, and always in the very Order, Realon and Nature of Things, go before Práttice. Because all true and real moral Amendment must of abfolute Neceffty always take its Rife, or begin at the Understanding of a rational Bring. The Undertanding muft, and the Underftanding
