3 Shall Jefus for admiffion fue,
His charming voice unheard?
And this vile heart, his rightful due,
Remain for ever barr'd?

4 Tis fin, alas, with tyrant pow'r,
The lodging has possest ;

And crouds of traitors bar the door,
Against the heav'nly guest.

5 Lord, rife in all thy conqu'ring grace,
Thy mighty pow'r difplay;
One beam of Glory from thy face
Can drive my foes away.

6 Ye dang'rous inmates, hence depart;
Dear Saviour, enter in,
And guard the paffage to my heart,
And keep out ev'ry fin.

STEELE.

CCCCXXVIII. Returning finners.

1 ARK! what the Lord of angels fays:
(Each word his fov'reign grace difplays;)
What glad ning news from heav'n he brings,
And whence the joy of angels fprings.

2 Angelic bands rejoice to hear,
With kind good will to finners here,
When one rebellious heart relents,
Believes in Jefus, and repents.

3 O, with what rapt'rous warmth they trace The methods of recov'ring grace;

And feraphs with new ardour burn,
To fee one prodigal return.

4 Fain would we, Lord, our anthems raise,
On earth, with heav'n's fuperior praise;
Fain would thy longing people fee
Sinners in crouds return to thee.

PART IV. 5 When shall the day dawn on our fight, When all thy children fhall unite

To blefs that love (dear morning come!) Which brings thy chofen fafely home?

BOYCE.

CCCCXXIX. After an alarming fubject.
ALMIGHTY God! have we not heard,
Once and again, thy voice?

And has not confcience fometimes fear'd,
And pierc'd us with its cries?

2 [Once and again we had a place
Beneath thy gofpel's found,

What dying beds, what op'ning graves,
Have we been call'd around ?]

3 Have not thy fpirit's gentle gales
Whisper'd within our ears?

Have not thy thunder's warning peals
Awak'd our drowsy fears?

4 Bleft Saviour! let thy pow'rful grace
Bid thoughtless finners live,
And what thy word and rod require
Let thy free spirit give.

CCCCXXX. Repenting Peter.

I SEE, the fad fruit of fin appears,
While Peter pours a briny flood!

BOYCE.

But that which cofts the fervant tears Muft coft the Lord his richest blood! z The fea of tears which Peter sheds Can never purge his crimson fin, But Jefus for the finner pleads, And pours his blood to make him clean. C. WESLEY.

CCCCXXXI. The lofs of the Soul irreparable.
RE the righteous Judge appear,
Sinner, count thy mournful gains;
Momentary pleasures here,
Purchas'd with eternal pains!

2 When thy foul its body leaves,
Where is its felicity?

I

When the pit thy foul receives,
What is all the world to thee?

C. WESLEY.

CCCCXXXII. The Saviour's call, and the awakened foul's refolution.

AND does the kind Redeemer stoop,

In fuch reviving strains,

Diseased finners to invite,

And heal their heart-felt pains?

2 Will he on no account caft out
The penitent, that flies

To his kind arms, for life and grace,
And all falvation's joys?

3 From age to age have coming fouls
A hearty welcome found,

Pleafures beyond whate'er they knew
In fin's enchanted round?

4 Can they his truth and

atteft

grace
With their expiring breath,
And find his word their trust in life,
Their cordial too in death?

5 Begone, my unbelieving fears;
Nor more, my foul, delay;
Jefus, I come, and at thy feet
Fain would thy call obey.

6 Frown not away a foul that wants
Thy grace to truft and try,

With the holy Spirit's favour,
Reft upon us from above!
Thus may we abide in union

With each other, and the Lord;
And poffefs, in fweet communion,
Joys, which earth cannot afford.

CCCCXLVI. The Tidings of falvation.
LESSED tidings of falvation,
Through Meffiah's precious blood!
When fhall ev'ry diftant nation
Know them, as their only good?.
May we know them,

As our fpirits' life and food!

CCCCXLVII. For a blessing on the word.

N what has now been fown,

Thy bleffing, Lord, bestow;

The pow'r is thine alone,
To make it fpring and grow ;.
Do thou the gracious harvest raise,
And thou alone fhalt have the praise.

CCCCXLVIII. Praife and confidence. HIS God is the God we adore, Our faithful, unchangeable friend; Whofe love is as great as his power, And neither knows measure nor end: Tis Jefus, the firft and the laft, Whofe fpirit fhall guide us fafe home; We'll praife him for all that is past, And truft him for all that's to come. : RIPPON'S C.

CCCCXLIX. Difmiffim.

IL Fill our hearts with joy and peace;
ORD difinifs us with thy bleffing,
Let us, each thy love poffe.ling,
Triumph in redeeming grace,
O refresh us, &c.

Trav'ling through this wilderness.
2 Thanks we give, and adoration,
For thy gofpel's joyful found:
May the fruits of thy falvation
In our hearts and lives abound!
Ever faithful, &c.

To the truth may we be found.
3 So whene'er the fignal's given,
Us from earth to call away,
Borne on angel's wings to heaven,
Glad the fummonds to obey,
May we ever, &c.

Reign with Christ in endless day.

CCCCL.. Difmission.

BURDER'S C..

ORD, difmifs us with thy bleffing,
Bid us all depart in peace,

Still on Gofpel manna feeding
Pure feraphic joys increase;
Fill our hearts with confolation
Unto thee our voices raise ;
When we reach thy blissful station

Then we'll give thee nobler praise;

And fing hallelujah to God and the Lamb,
For ever and ever.- -Amen.
