In state A, we have only included the number of tonnage of ships belonging to citizens of the United States, and built in the country. The following comparative state (which merely relates to the foreign commerce of the United States) includes the tonnage which has every year entered the ports of the United States. As in this last state, the different voyages made by the same vessel in the course of the year, have been included, it follows that the amount of the American tonnage in' the foreign trade, in state B., is superior every year to the American tonnage in the foreign trade in state A.
