On June 18, 1841, John Quincy Adams, Massachusetts, was excused from further service on the Committee, and Victory Birdseye, New York, was appointed as Chairman in his place.

On December 15, 1842, William Alexander Harris, Virginia, was appointed of the Committee on Indian Affairs, in the place of William McKendree Gwin, Mississippi, who has not appeared in the House at the present session.
