RESOLUTIONS The committee on resolutions submitted the following resolutions approved by it which were adopted by the Conference: I. TRIBUTE TO THE GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF VENEZUELA

The Third Inter-American Conference on Agriculture meeting in the city of Caracas conveys cordial greetings to the Government and people of Venezuela and records its gratitude to the Organizing Committee, which has worked so earnestly to assure success of the assembly, and expresses its appreciation for all the courtesies extended to the Delegates, such courtesies being new evidence of the traditional hospitality of Venezuela.

II. VOTE OF THANKS TO THE PAN AMERICAN UNION WHEREAS: The Pan American Union has been and continues to be increasingly active in furthering the progress of agriculture in the countries of the American Continent, and has effectively cooperated in the preparation of the Third Inter-American Conference on Agriculture,

Resolves: To convey to the Pan American Union, on behalf of the Delegations represented in the Conference, its sincerest thanks and to express its wish that the said organization may further widen the scope of its collaboration in accordance with the recommendations of inter-American conferences which have deliberated on the progress of agricultural industries in the Western Hemisphere. III. INTER-AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES WHEREAS:

1. Agriculture and livestock raising are the most important means of livelihood of the American peoples;

2. Many of the agricultural regions of these countries have not reached the stage of full development as yet and face numerous and serious problems of production and distribution;

3. Among the greatest contributions to the welfare of a great portion of American populations is the perfecting of techniques, research and agricultural education; and

4. The Inter-American Institute of Agricultural Sciences, organized and put into operation in spite of the almost insurmountable difficulties of the war, has shown in its two years of existence its true usefulness not only by the work it has done but also in the orientation of projects having promise of excellent results,

The Third Inter-American Conference on Agriculture '. Resolves: To convey to the Governing Board and officers of the Inter-American Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Turrialba, Costa Rica, sincerest congratulations for the excellent work of organization, construction and research that it has done. IV. COORDINATION OF ACTIVITIES OF INTERNATIONAL OR

GANIZATIONS DEALING With FOOD AND AGRICULTURE WHEREAS:

1. There are a number of organizations and arrangements among the nations of the Americas concerned with food and agricultural problems of common interest to those nations;

2. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is now in the process of establishment to deal with similar problems of world-wide interest;

3. Many of the American republics have already signified their intention to become members of the said organization and have urged the other nations to do likewise; and

4. The food and agricultural policies of the American republics are of world-wide as well as hemispheric significance,

The Third Inter-American Conference on Agriculture Recommends:

1. That the Governing Board of the Pan American Union adopt appropriate measures to establish liaison with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in order to assure its participation at the meetings of the said Organization; and

2. That the Executive Committee of the Third Inter-American Conference on Agriculture study, in conjunction with the Pan American Union, the best way of conducting the future work of the interAmerican conferences on agriculture, in order to cooperate with all international agencies interested in this field and thus avoid duplication of efforts; and thereby also to assure the world-wide programs
