CHAP. 272. An ACT for the relief of John Howell.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represen tatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, Confirmed in his That John Howell be, and he is hereby, confirmed in his title to a tract of land, containing six hundred and forty acres, claimed by virtue of a settlement made thereon in the year one thousand eight hundred and two, situated on the river Dardenne, in the county of Saint Charles, State of Missouri, to be surveyed in a square, or as near as may be, so as to include his improvement and in the event of there not being unappropriated public land adjoining his said settlement sufficient for the purpose, then the deficiency may be located upon any unappropriated land of the United States within the land district embracing said tract, sub ject to entry at private sale. CHAP. 274. An ACT for the relief of Nancy Haggard, and for other purposes.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represen tatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

CHAP. 276. An ACT for the relief of Nathaniel Platt.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

That the Secretary of the Treasury pay to Nathaniel Platt, out $50 to be paid of any money in the Treasury, not otherwise appropriated, the sum of two hundred and eighty-three dollars and fifty cents, in full compensation of his claim, for rent, forage, and provisions, furnished the troops under command of General Mooers, in eighteen hundred and fourteen, and for all damages done to the premises of the said Platt, in consequence of the occupancy thereof by the troops aforesaid. CHAP. 277. An ACT for the relief of the Lexington and Ohio Railroad

Company.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted, by the Senate and House of Represen$1,924 paid as du- tatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized to refund to the Lexington and Ohio Railroad Company, the sum of nineteen hundred and eighty-four dollars, paid by said company into the Treasury of the United States, as duties on railroad iron imported into the United States, in the years eighteen hundred and thirty-two and eighteen hundred and thirtythree, for making of a railroad from Lexington, in Kentucky, to the Ohio river, whenever it shall be made appear to the satisfaction of the Secretary of the Treasury that said iron has been applied to the uses for which it was imported.

CHAP. 278. An ACT for the relief of the heirs of James Moore.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represen tatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. Seven years half That the proper accounting officers of the Treasury Departinent be, and they hereby are, directed to ascertain and allow to Mrs. Sarah Swan and Mrs. Mary Waters, the only surviving children of James Moore, late a brigadier general in the army of the revolution, the amount of seven years' half pay, at a rate corre sponding with the pay to which the said Moore was entitled at the time of his death; and that the said amount, when so ascer tained, shall be paid to the said Sarah Swan and Mary Waters, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated. Approved, July 2d, 1836.

CHAP. 279. An ACT for the relief of William P. Rathbone.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represen tatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, His accounts as That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he hereby is, aupaymaster and as thorized to settle the accounts of William P.
