I Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth" Is. 42:10. "They sung as it were a new song before the throne, and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth" Rev. 14:3.

CHRIST'S ADVENT.

1 The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof. "Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands" Is. 42:12. 3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about. 'The LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire" Is. 66:15. "In the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them" S. Mat. 13:30. "Our God is a consuming fire" Heb. 12:29. 4 The earth saw, and trembled.

Ps. XCVII. I "Multitude of the isles" is synonymous with the Gentile world. Comp. Is. 42:4 with S. Mat. 12:21. 2 Habitation of his seat; lit. foundation of his throne. 7 Lit. That boast themselves in idols. A passage similar to the last clause of this verse is interpolated in the Gk. version of Deut. 32:43; see Heb. 1:6.
