Each shall answer, distinctly and audibly,

I heartily renew and ratify the same.

And in particular do ye believe, and will ye abide steadfast in the faith of, all those things, in faith whereof ye were baptized?

R. I do believe them all, and by God's grace will abide faithful.

Do

ye renounce and abhor the devil, the world, and the flesh?

R. I do renounce and abhor them all.

Do ye submit yourselves wholly to the will of Christ, and will ye obediently keep God's holy will and commandments henceforth, all the days of life?

R. I submit myself, and will obey.

your

And now as to those things wherein ye have been instructed:-Do ye believe that Almighty God hath instituted and appointed in His Church sacraments, holy mysteries and ordinances, whereby, to those who believe and are baptized, the Holy Ghost is given, the body and blood of Christ our Saviour are dispensed for spiritual food, and the forgiveness of sins, and all needful grace and spiritual strength, are continually ministered? And do ye, with all your heart and soul, seek and expect these blessings from Almighty God, through Jesus Christ, by the means of these same sacraments and ordinances?

R. These things I believe, and these blessings I expect.

A

Let us pray.

LMIGHTY GOD, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hast vouchsafed unto these Thy servants the knowledge of Thy truth, and the gift of regeneration by the Holy Ghost; Grant unto them of Thine abundant grace, we humbly beseech Thee, such preparation of heart, that they may be sealed unto perfection, through the laying on of hands according to Thine ordinance; may receive the full benefit of Thy holy sacraments; and may henceforth abide Thy faithful servants, in righteousness and true holiness, all the days of their life; through Jesus Christ our Lord; Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, O Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever One God, world without end. R. Amen.

Peace be with you.

R. Amen.

Then the Angel and other Ministers shall return towards the altar. After retiring to put on the proper vestments, the Angel shall commence the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

A

The "Glory be to God on high" shall be sung.

T The Collect.

LMIGHTY and Everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is edified and sanctified; Grant unto all thy servants whom Thou dost regenerate in the waters of baptism, that they may be established and perfected by the fulness of Thy grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord; Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, O

Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever One God, world without end.

R. Amen.

The Epistle [Heh. vi. 1–12].

The Anthem after the Epistle.

THOU, Lord, hast made me glad through Thy

works:

I will triumph in the work of Thy hands.

For my horn shalt Thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn:

I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

The righteous shall flourish like the palm-tree:
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Those that be planted in the house of the Lord:
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age:

They shall be fat and flourishing;

To show that the Lord is upright:

He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Then the following Gospels:

Here beginneth the holy Gospel according to Matthew. ["The book of" to "His name Jesus."] R. Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

Here beginneth the holy Gospel according to Mark. ["As it is written" to "with the Holy Ghost."

R. Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

Here beginneth the holy Gospel according to Luke. ["There was in the" to "prepared for the Lord."

R. Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

Here beginneth the holy Gospel according to John. ["In the beginning" to "full of grace and truth."]

I

R. Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

Then shall follow a Sermon, or an Address to the Candidates; after which the Angel, with the other Ministers, shall go down to them, and say,

Repeat the articles of your faith.

And they shall each rehearse audibly the
Apostles' Creed.

BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker
of Heaven and Earth:

And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into Hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy Catholic Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of Sins; The Resurrection of the Body; And the Life everlasting.

R. Amen.

After which they shall kneel, and the Angel shall pronounce over them the following Blessing:

A

LMIGHTY GOD, who hath given unto you

grace by the confession of a true faith to acknowledge the glory of the Eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity, keep you steadfast in this faith, and ever

more preserve you from all evil. The blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be with you.

R. Amen.

Peace be with you.
R. Amen.

Then shall follow the Nicene Creed, and the Sentences for the Offertory; during the reading of these the Candidates shall deliver their Offerings to the Deacon, and they shall be presented in the usual way.

The Prayer of Offertory.

MOST merciful Father, who by Thy servant Moses didst command the children of Israel to bring up unto Thee each one an offering, the ransom for his soul; Receive, we pray Thee, these Thy children, whom Thou hast redeemed with the most precious blood of Thy dear Son, and hast sanctified by the Holy Ghost; and who now, with a free and willing heart, yield and dedicate themselves to Thee, their Lord and God. Accept thou them, O God; accept their offerings, which, in token and pledge of this their solemn act, they offer and present to Thee; and grant that they may henceforth be holiness unto Thee, to the glory of Thy great Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

In the Prayer of Oblation (after Consecration).
