8. 7. 4. Missionaries addressed.

1 MEN

KELLY

EN of God, go take your stations;
Darkness reigns throughout the
earth:

Go proclaim among the nations
Joyful news of heav'nly birth:
Bear the tidings

[ocr errors]

Of the Saviour's matchless worth.

2 Of his gospel not ashamed,
As the 'pow'r of God to save,'
Go where Christ was never named;
Publish freedom to the slave!
Blessed freedom!

Such as Zion's children have.

3 When expos'd to fearful dangers,
Jesus will his own defend:
Borne afar 'midst foes and strangers,
Jesus will appear your friend:
And his presence

Shall be with you to the end.

WASHBOURN.

FLY ye heralds of salvation,
Spread the gospel far abroad;
0, that each benighted nation
Might behold the Lamb of God!
We the light of truth possessing,
Conscious of its boundless worth,
Would convey the heavn'ly blessing
Through the kingdoms of the earth.
Lord, we pray thee to awaken
Missionary zeal around;
Where thy work is undertaken,
Let it with success be crown'd;
While they launch the gospel vessel,
With thy standard wide unfurl'd,
For thine influence we wrestle,
To convey it round the world.

All its sails thy Spirit filling,
Let it visit ev'ry shore;

For "thy people shall be willing,"
And their rightful Lord adore.
Blessed Saviour, reign victorious,
Fill thy universal throne,

Let thy name on earth be glorious,
Make a ransom'd world thine own.

THE GOSPEL CHURCH.

C. M. Prayer for Missionary exertions

WARI

1 LORD, smile on each divine attemp To spread the gospel's rays;

And build, on sin's demolish'd throne, The temple of thy grace.

2 Oh! charge the waves to bear our friend In safety o'er the deep:

Let the rough tempest speed their way
Or bid its fury sleep.

3 Whene'er they preach the Saviour's word
Beneath the Banian's shade,
Let the poor Hindoo feel its pow'r,
And grace his soul pervade.

4 Oh! let the heav'nly shaster spread;
Bid the new caste arise:

And Brahmans preach the gospel-word; And India taste its joys.

CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

BEDDOME.

ET party names no more
The Christian world o'erspread:
Gentile and Jew, and bond and free,
Are one in Christ their Head.

Among the saints on earth
Let mutual love be found;
Heirs of the same inheritance,
With mutual blessings crown'd.

3 Thus will the church below
Resemble that above;

Where streams of endless pleasure flow, And ev'ry heart is love.

C. M. The Unity of the Church.

ET saints below in concert sing
With those to glory gone;
For all the servants of our King,
In heav'n and earth, are one.

ANON.

2 One family, we dwell in Him:
One church, above, beneath,
Though now divided by the stream-
The narrow stream of death.

3 One army of the living God,
To his command we bow:

Part of the host have cross'd the flood
And part are crossing now.

4 Ten thousand to their endless home,
This solemn moment fly;
And we are to the margin come,
And soon expect to die!

5 O Jesus, be our constant guide;
Then, when the word is giv'n,
Bid Jordan's narrow stream divide,
And land us safe in heav'n.

OME in, thou blessed of the Lord, Enter in Jesu's precious name; We welcome thee with one accord, And trust the Saviour does the same.
